Pistyll Rhaedr - Experience The Tallest Waterfall In Wales
If you haven’t already visited Pisyll Rhaedr waterfall you need to add it to this year’s bucket list. As soon as we arrived at the waterfall I instantly fell in love with the area and could feel the magic in the air, it is truly an enchanting place. There is said to be lots of folklore and Celtic mythology surrounding the area, including stories of giants and dragons.
Located in the Berwyn Mountains, just inside Wales, west of Oswestry and Shrewsbury, is this tranquil and magical location, home to the highest waterfall in Wales, with a 240ft drop. Interesting fact: although it doesn't have the volume or the width, Pisyll Rhaedr is in fact higher than Niagara Falls in the USA and Canada! You will be blown away by its beauty and sheer size,
For people planning on visiting, there is a small car park at the foot of the waterfall, parking for all vehicles is £5 on weekdays and £10 at weekends (as of December 2022, check the website for updates). At the foot of the waterfall is also a small café, Tan-y-Pistyll, meaning little house under the waterfall. Here you'll be able to have a cup of tea, a snack or a meal whilst enjoying the lovely view of the waterfall from the garden.
The location is a great place to explore the Berwyn Mountains and surrounding hills, with many walks to suit a variety of walkers. including a 3-mile circuit walk which crosses the foot of the fall and returns to the car park via old quarry heaps and hillsides.
